Kosher Luxury at Zadún, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve

There's a moment that happens on every trip we plan for kosher-observant families: the search for a place that doesn't ask them to choose between five-star luxury and religious observance. Most resorts offer one or the other — an upscale property with a kosher-friendly kitchenette, or a strictly kosher hotel that feels more functional than fabulous.

Zadún, the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Mexico, is neither. It's the rare property that does both at the highest level, and it's quietly become one of our favorite recommendations for clients who want Los Cabos without compromise.

The Kitchen

Built for the Job, Not Bolted On

Zadún's kosher program isn't an accommodation — it's infrastructure. The certification comes from K-abo Kosher, under the supervision of Rabbi Benny Hershcovich, covering everything from ingredient sourcing to final plating.

  • Two fully separate kitchens — one meat, one dairy — each with its own utensils, cookware, and serving dishes
  • A Mashgiach from the Chabad Cabo Jewish Center supervises the opening, operation, and closing of both kitchens for every service
  • K-abo Kosher certification under Rabbi Benny Hershcovich, covering sourcing through final plating
  • All meat is Glatt Kosher; all dairy is Cholov Yisroel
  • Prime beef imported from the U.S. through Beverly Hills Kosher
  • Food leaves the kitchen sealed and signed, so its kosher integrity travels with it — poolside, on the beach, in-room, or at any restaurant on property

Shabbat

Shabbat, Reimagined With a Mexican Accent

Zadún's Shabbat menu takes traditional dishes and threads in the flavors of Baja — without ever compromising the standard. Guests get a personalized menu built around their preferences, delivered by their Tosoani — Zadún's term for a dedicated personal attendant, whose title means "guardian of dreams" in Nahuatl.

Before candle lighting, your Tosoani handles the details that make Shabbat feel cared for: candles, board games, printed news, and books, so the room is calm and ready before sundown.

Beyond the Plate

Dining Beyond

For guests who want kosher dining to be an experience rather than a meal, Zadún offers Dining Beyond — private, curated settings across the property for kosher dinners under the stars. A table on La Playa at sunset, a fire pit lounge with a s'mores kit, live music, or fireworks over the Sea of Cortés — the kind of detail we don't expect to find paired with strict kosher supervision, and exactly the kind of detail we look for when we vet a property.

Residence guests can also arrange a full in-residence kashering service, so a private villa kitchen meets the same standards as the resort's own.

Planning Ahead

The Practical Details

Kosher access at Zadún has real deadlines and moving pieces — the kind of thing that's easy to miss booking a hotel the way you'd book a hotel, rather than the way you'd plan a kosher trip. Here's what matters:

  • Kosher kitchen access is arranged directly through Rabbi Benny Hershcovich, with confirmation from Zadún's reservations team
  • Requests need real lead time — this is not a same-day arrangement
  • Shabbat menus (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) must be locked in in advance
  • The kitchen observes Shabbat hours, closing Friday afternoon and reopening Sunday morning
  • Personalized chef menus and off-site meal service are both available for an additional fee

Why We Recommend It

Five-Star, Then Kosher — Not the Other Way Around

We don't send clients to properties because they check a kosher box. We send them because the experience holds up against any five-star resort in the world — Zadún carries Forbes Five-Star recognition, AAA Five Diamond status, and Michelin Keys — and then, on top of that, takes kosher observance seriously enough to build real infrastructure around it.

For a family that wants a real vacation — golf at Puerto Los Cabos, a Sensei wellness program, oceanfront villas, kids' programming — without leaving their standards at the door, Zadún is one of the very few places we'd point to without hesitation.
